Mogu Mogu

June 4th, 2019

My Japanese friends have a friend who recently moved from Japan to open his own ramen shop. He barely speaks English and I needed translations. Whenever I asked my friends what “Mogu Mogu” means, they’ll start making chewing faces at me. And that’s what the ramen shop is called:

And if you love anime, they’re showing them on their TVs!

Mazemen (dry noodle) is their specialty, so we ordered the Deluxe Mazemen and Kyoto Mazemen. We also ordered Haru (“Spring”) and Natsu (“Summer”) Mogu Mogu buns. Both comes with super moist and tender chasu, but Natsu Mogu Mogu comes with jalapeños.

Now we mix mix mix…

After eating our Mazemen halfway, our Japanese friend recommended adding some homemade vinegar to give it a different taste. And when there’s no more noodles left and only sauce, a scoop of rice is provided to give another different taste dimension.

Poached egg is mixed into the noodle, while soft boiled egg is also an ooey gooey golden goodness.
